His heart’s delight

Happy Easter guys! Isn’t this the most wonderful time of the year? The time we celebrate the death and resurrection of our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ! We remember all that He did for us. We do not mourn , He has redeemed us and He is alive forevermore!

As we celebrate, it is known that many revere the sacrifice of Jesus Christ especially at this time of year. This is indeed a sacred time, it is deserving of reverence. However allow me to cause you to deliberate a bit. Is He only worthy to be Lord of our lives this one weekend of the year? Is this the only time we should acknowledge His sacrifice, His Lordship?

Just as Elijah asked the people of Israel so I will ask you, how long shall you waver between two opinions . If God be God won’t you serve Him? 1kings 18:21. Saying thank you Lord for your sacrifice this one time of the year unfortunately doesn’t suffice, it is not enough. Especially If it’s just weightless words offered in the moment (brushed over, not given any or much thought). And as time passes His stripes become faded into the background of our lives and we forget.

I beckon us to thoroughly search our hearts , see if the words we say have any merit. If Jesus be God then serve Him. Jesus said if you love me you will keep my commandments ,John 14:15. Do we really love him? No seriously do we? Are we thankful for the sacrifice He made? Is His sacrifice worthy of our obedience?

Take 1 minute to see what your answers to the questions above are….

As we celebrate, It my sincerest desire that we have not just given ourselves the title “follower of Christ” just to be a part of a social media trend. I don’t mean to be a bearer of bad news but choosing to be a Christian just for the trend does not make us children of God.

One thing is for sure, God doesn’t like neutral , he doesn’t like halfway service, He wants all or nothing , He wants you to choose whom you will serve . In fact He said I rather you be hot or cold, Revelations 3:15. He hates Lukewarm( being on the fence, indecisiveness) He spues that out of His mouth.

It would be sooooo great if you….. (No not post a pic of Jesus on the cross… ) shut the world out, do it at any cost. Make a decision right now, whether you will accept His sacrifice.

He did it just for you

Jesus’ sacrifice is worthy of acceptance! Won’t you completely surrender your life to Jesus? He is waiting for you to give your heart wholly over to Him, that’s His Hearts delight!

Come home Son
Come home daughter
I’m waiting just for you!
That’s His heart’s delight!

The most wonderful time of the year!

Hands down, no argument, Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year, every single year! Agreed? Agreed😁 .

When you hear of Christmas your mind automatically gets filled with the scents, the smiles, the songs, the gifts , you hear bells ringing, you get flashes of family time, not forgetting all the goodies and food.

This season urges so many people to look beyond themselves to show forth the goodwill that would seem to be missing for the previous seasons. People are extra kind and extra helpful, some cant even explain why but that’s what happens around Christmas time.

What wouldn’t you give for this same aura, aroma , atmosphere to be present all year round? That would be so amazing, wouldn’t it? Here’s a little secret, It is possible for you to have that same joy, excitement, love, and togetherness all year round. I’ve experienced it for myself, at the place I call home, HopeNYC.

Have you ever felt tangible hope? At my home you could taste , you can feel it everywhere, it’s in the air, you can see it on everyone’s face. There’s no denying it. Don’t you want to experience that Hope?

Then come this December the 8th at 5 pm we’re about to share this undeniable hope with the world. Trust me you don’t want to miss this. This is an opportunity of a lifetime where you can aid in giving someone an experience that will change their lives forever.

You must be curious to know what is this year round hope and joy we have to offer. See most people think they have it but for them it only appears around Christmas time and they can’t keep up the act because they don’t know the source of the joy. Im about to reveal the source of our Hope, it’s Christ Jesus. Having Christ live within you will give you that hope not only for your lifetime but for eternity and there’s no pretending there.

So join us on December 8th , 2019 with my family as we share hope on Rockaway Blvd, to a dying world. We want to let the world know that Jesus Christ is the reason for the season and in Christ you can have Christmas all year round! I’m saying this because it’s not just about the one day but it’s about that one encounter with Messiah and that’s what Parade on Rockaway is all about. That one encounter that changes your life forever.

I see you’ve read it to the end bravo 👏 or maybe you read the end first… cheater 🤣. Either way I’m happy you’re here. Can I challenge you to share this with someone who you think needs Hope today? It will be eternally appreciated.

Perfect timing!

Are we waiting on God’s timing?

Or are we trying to manipulate God into doing what we want, when we want it and how we want it? The latter seems to be true. We say things like Lord we will wait on you, do whatever pleases you, it’s your will and not mine. Yet when things are unfavourable we lose faith.

Are we really trusting God’s timing? Throwing around weightless words, as if  God can be fooled. He is not mocked He knows the very intent of our hearts. Think of the countless times these words parted our lips; without thoroughly thinking it through. I surrender my life completely to you Christ. What does those words really mean?

It means, trusting that He is orchestrating every single aspect of our lives, even the tiniest, minuscule detail. He is completely in control. It means,  not second guessing what God is doing, but taking our hands off of the wheel. Its letting yourself go knowing He will catch you. That’s what trusting God looks like.

So can we challenge ourselves to trust God? Just let go in His secure arms. He is more than capable to take care of us, even if it the situation looks grim, still trust God. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths,Proverbs 3:5,6. His perfect timing!

Good news!

Who likes to receive gifts or good news? I can see everybody sticking both hands up excitedly. My hands were the first to go up.

Everybody loves to receive good news.

I have great news for you! As a matter of fact, I have the best news for you! The world needs to hear this!

Think of all the possible things that would make you so elated if someone were to bring you good news right now. Your loan has been repaid in full, here are the keys to your new home or car, congratulations you are pregnant . Whatever it is, the news I have for you trumps that everyday, all year round. Do I have your attention now?

It has been said that some of the wealthiest people in the world are the most unhappy or the most miserable. Doesn’t that make you ponder? Yes, material things can aid in a better quality of life but can it give you true joy , true fulfillment or a true meaning to life? To be frank the answer is no, you’ll never be satisfied if your need for fulfillment is dependent on material things or what this world has to offer. No amount of money or riches can grant you true joy or fulfillment in life.

We have all felt hurt, disappointed, sad or robbed at some point in our lives. I’m sure none of us if we had the choice would want to experience any of those things again. What if I told you, you can have a life free from those things, free from the pain, free from the heartache, free from death, disease, depression etc? What if I told you, you can have that forever and ever? You wouldn’t be poor, there will be no sickness, there will be no pain. That’s what most of us are seeking anyway , but in vain. What wouldnt you give to have that for an eternity? I can hear most of us say “Hmmm for a life of pure joy, forever? There is nothing I’m not willing to risk for it.” Now that’s the right attitude to have ,because this gift is attainable; no gimmicks, no fine prints and it’s free of charge. Yes, you heard right! It’s free of charge.

Let’s unwrap the best gift ever given to mankind.

It’s a man , no it’s not Michael Ealy ladies think pure thoughts. God the Father saw a world that was so sick and dying. He loved them so much He decided He will not allow them to perish. God had, what we would consider the hardest decision of a lifetime, to make. He sacrificed His only begotten and beloved son to save the world. Ok this part might sound really sad but hold on there’s more. Borned in a manger, to a virgin mother. Blameless ,without spot or wrinkle, Jesus Christ came down from His glorious throne to die a gruesome death (just keep reading man) so that we can live with Him in eternity . His blood was shed to set us free from sin eternally. We are no longer slaves, we are free! That my friend is the best news anyone can receive.

God is real and His love for us is real. Most of us are familiar with John 3:16, (Let’s read it slowly and take the time to understand each word.) “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believe in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.” God doesn’t want you to perish, salvation is the solution. It’s the best gift in the whole wide world, there is nothing better. Not only is salvation for our life here and now ; but it’s our vehicle into eternity. You make the choice to accept it or reject it.

Francis Chan once made an illustration of life on earth and eternity. He used a very very very long rope, let’s say 10,000ft long. The first 12 inches represented our life here on earth, the rest of it represented eternity. See we were tricked into thinking all that matters is in the here and now. Dont be fooled , all that matters is eternity. Where will you spend eternity? You make the choice, accept the greatest gift ever given to mankind and have everlasting life!

Now that’s some good news!!!!

An encounter with God

I want to address something that has been on my mind for a while now. Something that I struggled with as well. Today’s discussion will be a bit on the solemn side. We have serious business to take care of.

An encounter with God must effect change.

An encounter with God must effect change. Whether it’s a change of heart, a change of the mind, something must change.

How can we say we encountered God and remain the same? Hmmm, that gives us something to think about. Are we just saying the churchy stuff like “I met with the Lord today” , just because it’s cool to say? Or because we want people to think we’re super spiritual? If we say those things and there is nothing to show for it, I think it should make us think twice before uttering a word. When we do a self check, if we’re still comfortable with doing the same things that convicted us in church last Sunday something is not right.

We all get caught up in the high of the presence of God, then return to our old ways.

Being in God’s presence causes you to say things like who am I that you are mindful of me?, or how can I dare stand in the presence of God and return to my old ways? An encounter with God brings an awareness that causes us to reconsider our position. We see God for who He is, and our eyes are opened to see who we are. We become so aware of everything, our thoughts change, we no longer fuss about trivial things. We now consider, what if God returns right this moment am I in the right place, am I saying the right things or am I doing the right things? Will God be pleased with me? An encounter with God leaves us thirsty for more and more and more of Him.

I personally do not believe God sent his Holy spirit just so we can say; wow, the presence of God was so rich in there today huh? Holy Spirit is not here to receive complements from us. These are some of the reasons I believe we have Holy Spirit with us.

1. To sanctify us, separate us onto God. 1 Cor 6:11

2. To teach us, to correct us Jn 16:13-15

3. To convict us of sin, we are not to remain in our sins Jn 16:8-10
Holy spirit is not here just to make us feel nice.

He is perfect, being in his presence ignites the desire to be more like Him.

In turn we ought to consider our ways and be challenged to a deeper more sincere walk with God.

It’s ironic that we claim we have encountered the one who walked on water, healed the lame and the blind, the one that no matter where he goes something changes, the one who made the ultimate sacrifice, He died for us and nothing changes in our lives. When this happens I suggest we search ourselves. Our pull toward the things of the world should be redirected. The pull should now be Lord cleanse me , I want to walk like You, talk like You, I want to think just like you. We would make confessions like it’s not about what I feel is right but Your word is truth oh Lord, we wouldn’t hold our own opinions in higher esteem than we do the word of God. That’s facts!

Let’s take a brief look at Isaiah’s encounter with God.

In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one cried to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory!” And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke. So I said: “Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, The Lord of hosts.”
Isaiah 6:1‭-‬5 NKJV

This should be our response when we are in the company of The perfect God. Naturally you internalize. We claim to have been saved, Holy Ghost filled , we boast about our encounters with God and yet there has been no desire for change in our lives. Maybe, just maybe we didn’t encounter God and need to be honest with ourselves. There’s no fooling God people, He knows every thing.

Lord give each of us the genuine desire to really encounter You.

God is with us!

For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
Philippians 2:13 KJV

This is such a revelation to me. There are countless times that I’ve been taking credit for the little efforts I make to strengthen my walk with God, saying things like at least I’m trying. As a result I would end up feeling tired and lonely, sometimes eventually giving up. Thinking I’m the only one that’s trying to make our relationship work and it’s obvious that it takes two to relate.

Even the littlest of desire that I have to do something to please God, comes from God himself… I’m totally mind blown…. Wow…. I’m not alone God is walking with me step by step, egging me on. He’s with me people! Some of you may say, wait is it only now she’s realizing this? Leave me alone man, 🙈 let me revel in the revelation that my daddy has never left me. He has held my hand all the way.

This scripture may seem so insignificant to some but it has so much weight.  Let this encourage your heart, may your eyes be opened to see that God is not far from you. May this scripture cause your relationship with God to deepen,  widen, heighten. If you’re struggling in your walk with God but in your heart you’re saying ABBA (Father) I really want to please you. The fact that you even have the desire to honour God, that is God working in you. That’s one way to know that Your heavenly Father is close to you. Somebody shout Hallelujah! I literally feel like screaming. God is awesome friends!

God is with us always! One more time for the people in the back. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

Today I thank God for this revelation!

Be submissive?!

This is one hot and steamy topic but it’s one that’s necessary especially in these days. Growing up I thought submission to my husband would have been as easy as 123 but… well… lemme tell you this… It’s not as easy as I thought it would’ve been. As a matter of fact it’s not easy at all.  It’s all about being obedient to God. Being willing to let go of what you think is right and allowing God to renew your mind.

These are some bible verses concerning submission to husband Ephesians 5:22-23 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands.     1 Corinthians 11:3 But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of a wife is her husband, and the head of Christ is God. Colossians 3:18 Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.

So… does submission mean that my opinions and ideas must always be overshadowed by my husband? Or is it ok to state how I feel, my desires, my wants? Does it mean that having an argument is out of the question? What about if I see my husband doing something that I know would end up in chaos is it ok for me to say what you’re doing is wrong? What about the finances should I  interject if I think the money is not being handled correctly with good reasons? Like where is the line drawn?

According to Jacky Hill Perry, “submission is not agreeing on everything , it doesn’t mean leaving your brain at the alter, it doesn’t mean you dont try to influence your husband positively. Being submissive does not mean getting all of your spiritual strength from your husband, neither does it mean living or acting in fear of your husband. It is Following  his lead in everything that honors God.”

Yes you are still an individual with a mind of your own, no you dont have to keep your thoughts and ideas to yourself. In everything you do, do it as unto God. I know I  know women can be really fiesty and impulsive,  speak your mind now then regret it later. I speak from experience🙈. In all seriousness we need to be honorable in what we say and how we say things.

Alot of people ask the question so what if my husband wants me to do something illegal or something that’s not Christ like? For that answer refer to the above 3rd paragraph last line…. Okay I’ll repeat just incase you don’t want to read it again… I got you…. It says: follow His lead in everything that honors God. So no you dont have to accompany him to rob the bank.

This brings me to my final point, our loyalty,  reverence, honor, priority must first be to God. We ought to submit to God first and foremost, and in submitting to God you will in turn submit to your husband. In addition to that the scripture says  in 1 Corinthians 11:3 But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of a wife is her husband, and the head of Christ is God.  Knowing that God is leading your husband is reason enough to let go of the reigns. Need I say more? Submitting to your husband is being obedient to God. Case closed.

The life of a Christian is not to prove to the world that we’re perfect little human beings, walking around with everything sorted. Nope, absolutely not! If that’s what you thought, my friend you need to wash that thought completely out of your mind. Wash out your brain..🤣

No human being has a perfect life and more so Christians. Far from perfect, far far far from perfect. Often times we mess up so much it’s a crying shame. Like how does God put up with us? But that’s just the point He is more than absolutely able. We’re weak but He’s all powerful, we’re imperfect but He’s the definition of perfection, we mess up he cleans us up.

Our lives as Christian’s has little if anything to do with us. Our lives merely point to our father, Who relentlessly and fervently loves us. Our life merely is a story of a Father who picks us up dusts us off and set us on the way to do His will. A Father who loves His children enough to discipline them, to correct them. And sometimes the discipline is not the easiest to endure. That’s when you see some of us looking all worn out and ragged/ rugged… just kidding… a little🤔.

Basically being a Christian is not a race to show off who has it most put together. At times those who aim to portray this image is going through hell, seriously. But our lives is to show that we rely on a perfect God. We dont have it all together, He puts us together.

“I don’t want to be a Christian because you have to be perfect” That’s how alot of people think these days but that’s not the focus. The moral of the story is it’s ok to be weak because in our weakness God’s strength is made perfect. You dont have to get it right before coming to God, if you let Him He will make you right.

So Christians are not perfect we just rely on a perfect God.

The end…..

He hears… He sees… He knows

God knows everything that happens in our lives. Nothing that happens, happens by chance.

When you give your plans over to God He orders your steps and everything falls into place beautifully. The steps of a righteous man are ordered by God. Ps 37:24

Don’t think for a moment that God is just looking on with no control over what is happening in your life. God is in charge of everything.

Be at peace knowing that God is working it out for your good. Remember God sees the finish from the beginning. His plans for us are always good but you have to obey His orders and his commands.

When we step out of God’s will we also step out of His covering for our lives. We cant expect to do what we want, how we want and when we want then when things don’t go accordingly we blame God. “Humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God that He may exalt you in due time.” 1 Peter 5:6-7.

The world doesn’t revolve around us. This is God’s world and He does what pleases Him at all times.

How do we deal with challenges in our Christian walk?

Wait did you somehow think that being a christian eliminates you from having challenges? Sorry to break it to you but this Christian walk is all about challenges and overcoming them, one after the next. Is it going to be easy? Nope, definitely not. Will you feel like giving up? Yep, a lot of the times. Does it feel like it will never end? Mhmm, it does… almost feels like “when it rains it pours”. I just think I should be very vivid about the christian walk because a lot of us go in with the idea that it’s going to be easy things, all nice and dandy. That’s not the case, journeying as a christian is hard.

Why do we face challenges as Christians?

My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing, James 1:2-4 . In other words, the testing of our faith through our experiences leads to spiritual maturity and inner peace. The struggles and trials we face are not to knock us out of the race but it is to make us stronger in Christ Jesus. It is imperative to know this, especially when we’re in the midst of our testing, so instead of becoming downcast we can indeed rejoice in knowing at the end I will be stronger, better should I persevere.

What should I do when faced with challenges?

  • Tell yourself, this is a test to make you stronger.

  • Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him. James 1:12

  • Encourage yourself in the Lord.

  • Sing praises unto God.

  • Read the Bible.

  • Pray for strength to endure.

  • Remind yourself that; giving up is the easy way out.

  • Your reward comes in overcoming.

  • Put on the armor of God: Ephesians 610 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

2 Corinthians 1:5 Just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.

How big is your Jar of hope?

apples art basket blur

My Pastor once said do not allow the size of jar/ receptacle be the limit to what God can do for you. The oil only stopped flowing when there were no more barrels (The widows olive oil, 2 Kings 4:1-7).

Let me challenge our faith a bit. The God we serve is the God of the impossible. He who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we can ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work in us. There is nothing we can name on this earth that is too extreme for God to perform it. He is the God that turned water into wine, calmed the raging storm, healed the blind, raised the dead, died for our sins and rose triumphantly. He created the heavens and the earth, He created you and I. He fed thousands with two fishes and five loaves, he walked on the water in the midst of a storm, He sent His word to bring the dead back to life. Parted the Red sea, drowned Pharaoh’s army, delivered the Israelites his people from the hands of their enemy. The God who never forsook His children. The faithful God.

Now tell me is there anything that my God cannot do? He is the same yesterday, today and forever. He hasn’t changed and will never change. He is the faithful God. Will you trust Him today? God is able!

God is always looking out for His people and His kingdom. With that being said all the miracles, signs and wonders God did was to benefit the kingdom of God. God is still the same God so all that he is doing is for the benefit of His kingdom. Hope you see where I’m going with this. What are the things you’re asking God for? And how will it benefit the kingdom of God? Search you heart and when you’ve gotten your answer. Then you can set out you jars for God to pour out a blessing for you.

I don’t know about you but I’m setting out ocean sized jars to receive the outpour of God’s blessings on my life. Pour it out Lord!

Great are you Lord!

I endeavor to sing your praises to the ends of the earth, for You are worthy to be exalted. You are great and greatly to be praised.

Everything our eyes can behold is riddled with your goodness and greatness . The works of your hands are beyond spectacular. Words simply cannot begin to express the magnitude of who you are.

Everything is held together so perfectly by you. The sun rises and sets each day and is viewed by everyone at different times all over the world. Who else could do something so unfathomable? You paint the night skies so we can admire the beauty of what you create. The seas obey your commands, we are not submerged by it, awesome Father!

You have woven me together so creatively. When I think about how we were formed from the dust of the earth, I’m left in awe. Men cannot take the glory for such an incredible work of art.

Do not worry!

Luke 12:22-31

Do Not Worry

22 Then Jesus said to his disciples: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. 23 For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. 24 Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! 25 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life[b]? 26 Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?

27 “Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 28 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you—you of little faith! 29 And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. 30 For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them.31 But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.

This scripture is here to remind us that God sees, He hears, and He definitely cares. I just want to encourage you, it’s ok not to worry. The world glorifies worrying in a sense that it shows that you’re concerned and that you’re a “go getter” (however you say it) . We’re constantly told to take matters into our own hands, trying to control our own future . What would you think if I said that’s not the way God wants it? He wants us to leave those things up to him. He promises that if we seek His kingdom, He will meet our needs.

It’s so true that worrying does nothing to help our situation. It just makes us feel stressed out about things we cannot control. So instead of getting worked up for nothing, just relax, take a deep breath and hand your troubles and worries to the one who can take care of you.

Prayer: Lord please help us to let go of our worries and trust in You!

Getting married?

A few things to know before getting married

blur book chapter close up

  • Be so passionate about God that even if you were to remain single you would be fine. Know God and love God. Be complete in yourself, do not look for someone to complete you.

  • Know your worth; love yourself, build your self-confidence, believe in yourself. You deserve nothing less than the best. Ain’t nothing worse than an insecure individual, it sucks the life out of any relationship.

  • Give your list to God, make sure your desires are in line with what God wants. Make sure your list prioritizes the things that will matter in the long run.

  • Let your past experiences guide you in choosing your spouse. Don’t make the same mistakes over and over again. If a particular trait didn’t work the first two times most definitely it wouldn’t work the third time around. Be wise! Recognize recurring negative signs!

  • Things wouldn’t always go as planned; loneliness may step in, hormones will rage. Keep yourself occupied and make sure you stay focused on your goals.

  • Ask God to help you to choose the right person. Pray for discernment. Pray that those with ill intentions will be steered clear from you and that you would know when you’ve met the right person.

  • Don’t be scared to state your intentions and your expectations.

  • Make sure you’re on the same page especially where your relationship with God is concerned. Do not be unequally yoked! Get someone who can be strong enough to lift you up in your weak moments and vice versa.

  • Be yourself, be fun and confident!

  • If it’s been years and you can’t decide whether you’re ready to get married then you might just not be ready.

  • Long courtships don’t necessarily mean you’ll know the person better. You have to trust God with that part of your future, some people are great at hiding things. Pray for God to reveal all the deal breakers before you tie the knot.

Faith is hard!

It’s not as easy as it sounds. Many people say it so casually “you need to have faith” without telling you that it takes hard work. So some people run away with the idea that it’s easy, and become overly discouraged when they are hit with the reality, that having faith can be very hard.

Have you ever made up in your mind that you were going to put your faith and trust in Gods word but then doubt steps in and whoops there goes all your plans to believe. This has happened to me so often. It can be a real struggle especially if you’re accustomed to having your doubt overrule everything in your life.

You have to be prepared to put in the work and work overtime as well. Doubt creeps in so easily sometimes and it seems almost natural to believe the doubts. But having faith takes us consistently and consciously fighting against the doubt and praying for the strength to believe in the promises of God. It’s saying, God right now it’s so easy to doubt but give me the strength to believe in you.

Your doubts will be so loud at times it’ll take all you have to muster the courage to pray. It’s all about changing your habits. We all know how hard it is to get rid of an old habit. Mindfully making the decision to ignore your doubts and pray to God for his strength to believe in His word.

I need you to know it’s not going to be easy, so be prepared to fight through your doubts and reach out to God to help your unbelief and He will! Before you know it, your new habit will be trusting in God and ignoring the doubts.

Your faith will be enriched!

Just Keep relying on God’s strength!

Dad’s presence

Today’s is my father’s 65th birthday. Happy birthday daddy! I just wanted to share 4 things I admire most about my dad.

1. Daddy as a strong leader, looking back I have never seen a moment my father looked weak or incapable of doing anything. He was well respected in the home and the community.

2. Daddy as the most intelligent man I know, from English to Biology, Psychology, Theology you name it daddy knows it. My father had a mini library in his bedroom and he read all of those books. Not only that, he can remember what he read too. Wow! I would always try to pick his brains just because I’m amazed at all the things he knows.

3. My dad as provider, daddy always worked hard to provide for us. Even though we’re all grown he still makes sure he set aside some of his groceries for his children, we appreciate you. He made sure we always got what we needed growing up. He would tell stories of times when things were really hard and they didnt know where our next meal would come from but I have never seen that side. Bills taken care of, food taken care of, roof over our head, shoes on our feet, clothes on our back. He made sure our birthdays and Christmases were special, we always looked forward to receiving our gifts from.

4. Daddy as my spiritual leader and example. Daddy was very disciplined and consistent in his faith. Never once did I have to worry if daddy still believed in God. No matter what may have been going on, he never caused us to doubt his faith in God. Every new school year daddy anointed our heads with oil and prayed for us. Every single Sunday morning we’d have devotions , daddy was showing us that we needed to rely on God for everything. Now we will pass this on to our children. Thank you!

I appreciate you being there for us Daddy! We’re looking forward to many more birthdays!

The favor of the Lord is upon me

What is the favour of the Lord? Some think it’s when things always work according to their plan. I used to think that’s what the favour of the Lord is. I’ve been awaken though, now I believe it is the will of the Lord for our lives perfectly working itself out for our good in God’s way and His timings. This means the favour of the Lord can come in the form of rejection or heartbreaks. It’s not always going to be all butterflies and smiles in the sunlight. Yea, sometimes it will hurt. How can it hurt and still be the favour of God? You’d ask. It’s simple, we believe that God is all knowing and He certainly is. What we may think is best for our lives God knows we’re way off course. So when we ask God for his favour, He does what He knows is best for us. What God knows is always more accurate than what we may think, imagine, calculate and all that stuff.

We’re off to an interview, well prepared. We pray, God I thank you for your favour , which basically means we want to get through with the job, period. If we dont get the job we somehow doubt we have the favour of the Lord upon us.

Can I challenge us to change the way we think? Instead, when we pray for His favour, realise that whichever way it goes it is the favour of the Lord working in that situation. So if you don’t get the job know that God is seeing the bigger picture He knows everything about the future and it happened that way for a reason.

Praying for God’s favour upon your life is putting absolute trust in who God is. You let go of all your ideas and trust that what God does is the best for you. Trust God!

Easier said than done, it is. But can we “challenge” ourselves to really rely on God. Challenge being the operative word. The song writer Donnie McClurkin says it best:
II know that faith is easy when everything is going well
But can you still believe in Me when your life’s a living hell?
And when all the things around you seem to quickly fade away
There’s just one thing I really want to know

Will you let go? (I’ll trust you, Lord)
Will you stand on My word? (I’ll trust you, Lord)
Against all odds will you believe what I have said? (I’ll trust You, Lord)
What seems impossible (I’ll trust You, Lord)
Will you believe? (I’ll trust You, Lord)
Every promise that I made will you receive? (Yes, I will trust You, Lord)
I know how bad it hurt you when that loved one’s life came to an end
And when they had to leave you, you said you’d never love again
But will you trust that I can help you and I’ll never turn away?
Will you trust Me, child, no matter, come what may?
What if it hurts? (I’ll trust You, Lord)
What if you cry? (I’ll trust You, Lord)
What if it doesn’t work out the first time that you try? (I’ll trust You, Lord)
What if you call My name (I’ll trust You, lord)
And you don’t feel Me near? (I’ll trust You, Lord)
Will you believe in Me or will you fear? Oh, my child?
(Yes, I will trust, You Lord)
I will trust
I will trust
I will trust
Oh, oh, oh, oh know that faith is easy when everything is going well

Let us trust in God!

Prayer: Lord help me to trust you wholeheartedly when I pray for your favour.

To die is gain

To a sister in Christ , your time spent here with us was great! I’ve only interacted with you for brief moments and your radiance , your light shone through everytime. I’m absolutely positive that those closest to you were tremendously blessed and will miss you immensely because of how much you’ve touched their lives.

This takes me back to the longest conversation we’ve ever had. It was riddled with your faith in Christ and the great inner strength you possess. I admired that alot. I don’t know how you did it. You were the perfect example of demonstrating peace within the storm.

It makes me think about the little conversations I’ve had with random people, will it leave an impact on them as much as yours did me? Life is definitely not about the big moments but about the little moments that leaves big impact on people’s lives.

For me every time I encountered you, you beamed of hope, joy, you had such a peaceful garment over you. I can’t think of a time I saw you and you look sad or troubled. I admired you!

Even though I’ve only had minimum exposure to you, all I honestly ever saw was Christ in you. You beamed Christ! I know for sure you have had your fare amount of trials and tests but yet if you hadn’t shared that part of your life with me, I would have never known. I believe you finished well. I’m positive those closest to you will attest to this. You ran this race well my sister. Now I can only aspire to leave such an indelible mark on everyone I meet. For them to see Christ in and through me Like I saw Him through you. I admired you.

I mourn with your loved ones but also I’m rejoicing with you because you gained heaven, you gained eternity, the hope and joy in which we live for. Philippians 1:21 says, “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”

Thoughts of one of the many lives you’ve impacted. Thank you!

I wish I could’ve said this to your face 😥😪

Your soul will rest in peace!

The internet is not all that bad

It was approaching Christmas in the year 2013. It was my tradition to always spend my Christmas in the country side with my parents. I’ll forever cherish those moments. The last-minute cleaning and shopping. Oh how I loved throwing out old items from my parents cabinet, which they always fret about but I think they secretly thank me for doing it. Cooking and spending time with the family is an all time favorite. Anyway I’ll write about Christmas another time, even though talking about it now is making me super excited about spending my first Christmas alone with my husband. :-).

This is how it happened, I received a friend request on Facebook on the 3rd December,2013 that changed my life forever. I accepted and the rest is history. ok, ok I’ll let you in on the details. So Dwayne Bagot who happens to be my husband saw this really beautiful full eyed girl on his page. He was stunned at her beauty and said to himself , she is the most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen, I must married her. So he clicked on the request button, his heart fluttered as he sent it. Will she ever respond to my request? He thought, she has to for she must be mine foreverrrr. If he tells you otherwise it’s only because he’s shy.

We passed the initial stage, I accepted his request he expressed his gratitude and there marked the beginning of a beautiful friendship. We started off casually checking in on each other. Then graduated to can’t wait to hear from each. We messaged each other every single day, not even exaggerating.

I remember how he had me waiting just so I could hear his voice for the first time. Boy was I nervous , then it was when we video chatted for the first time. I used to get all dressed up just so we can video chat lol, angled my face so he’d see my cute dimples. The first time we met in person was 6 months after we met online, It was awesomeness! We made it official on the 1st May 2014.

After a few months I just couldn’t take my mind off of this guy who dressed so dapper. He’s a great dresser, ah loved it, I still do! Anyways before I met him I used to write love letters to my future husband telling “him” that I’m waiting for him and I can’t wait to meet him and all that.  I would write letters to God too telling him I met this guy and I think he’s the one. It was so cute, Now I don’t know where those letters are. I need to find them. Wait i think i gave those letters to Him… I hope he still has them.

Long story short He stuck through with me, never gave up on us for one minute. Even when the distance got so overwhelming, every time I asked him  are you still waiting ? His answer would always be yes I’m still waiting. I’ve never had someone who was so faithful to me and for that I’ll be grateful for a lifetime.

By the way he was the first guy I introduced to my dad , instead of Dwayne being the nervous wreck I was shaking in my boots, no my sandals, stuttering and all that crazy stuff lol. I’m his wife now and really now the rest is history.

We Met on Facebook!

Some long distance relationships do work!

The Internet is not all bad after all!

The End

My memories…

One of the areas I’ve been challenged the most in is my memory. I have been struggling with my memory. At first I thought maybe its just a simple thing but it has kept me bound for a while. Its been one of the things the enemy has been using to devalue my self-worth.

I am very easily disoriented , like seriously your girl got lost in an area that I know very well, right on camp street, Georgetown, Guyana. I remember walking out of the mall and everything was in the opposite direction. The buses were going the wrong way, I was standing on the wrong side of the road, at least that’s how I felt. I really didn’t know what was going on. Lets not talk about here in the USA, I’ll just say it’s very hard getting around.  My attention to detail is minimal, if I see you and I don’t consciously make an effort to remember what you’re wearing, if someone asks me to describe your outfit I won’t be able to. I’d be having a conversation with you and lose my entire train of thought. Or if I’m retelling an event I won’t remember the order in which things happen or I’d either forget parts of what had happened. I remember faces sometimes but I won’t remember where or how I know that face. I’d just finish reading a passage and can’t tell you one thing I’ve read unless I read it two or three times. Yep the struggle is real.

I don’t necessarily want to be a preacher but I do want to be able to defend the gospel and spread it to as much persons as possible. But I often recoiled from doing it because of the fear of not remembering the verses or where it’s taken from.  In order  to quote scriptures I’d have to be reading it, or I’d have to rephrase it.  Sad right?

Will I let this stop me, though? The old me would be sinking in depression but though I am weak I serve a God who is strong. So if I have to read every scripture in order to spread the gospel, that’s what I will do. I write a lot because it helps me to remember my thoughts, it keeps me focused. So if I have to write about God to let people know about him, thats what I will do. I’ll serve Him right where I’m at, with what I have.

I get so Jealous when I hear people reciting passages from the bible while I struggle to remember one verse. Oh how I wish I could be able to remember stuff like that.  Yes it hurts, it hurts like crazy. I’ve never really spoken about it before because I was afraid I’d be seen as an invalid. But I realize now its ok that you know my weaknesses because it is in my weakness that God’s strength is made perfect. Therefore I will rather boast in my weakness, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. As “my Pastor” 🙂  said we serve the God of the impossible , so when we’re faced with situations we have no control over , it’s time to rejoice because the God that we serve is more than able. He specializes in miracles. We get to show off our God. 2 Corinthians 12:9

Boasting in my weaknesses allows my faith to become stronger. When I do overcome obstacles, weaknesses and trials, I know it is not I who did it but Christ’s power working in and through me.

black and white people bar men

So if you’re using your inabilities to deter you from living and working for Christ, stop it. That’s no excuse , what you’re unable to do, God is able! He’s ALL POWERFUL! Give that weakness to God, rest it entirely at His feet. God  you do what you alone can, turn my mess into a message, use my weakness to show forth your perfect strength . Let that be our prayer every time the enemy uses our weakness as a weapon to cripple us.

Colossians 3:23-24  Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

Truth be heard, we may never be the best at anything, that’s just reality. But does that mean we can’t be great? Ponder on that for a moment. Most times we’re seeking to achieve the title of “the best”, fighting to surpass everyone in the race. We miss out on simply being great.

The harsh truth is, whatever we do we can be assured that there just might be someone who does it ten times better. Will we let that hinder us from achieving greatness? Who ever said we can’t all be great? Some selfish person I bet… Sometimes I abhor the measures and guidelines society sets for us to follow. We are all unique in our own way, yet we have to follow general, one track guidelines in order to meet the criteria of being the best. Whose rules are we allowing ourselves to be governed by? Society or God? Lets face it, people will always try to measure your worth and give you titles as they see fit.Which by the way are mere opinions of fellow human beings. But I have great news, we do not have to accept them, we do not have to live by them. We have a choice, we can either accept what society may deem us or we can break free and be unapologetically who God called us to be!

This is how I believe we can be great at whatever we do. Develop a tunnel vision, lets not compare ourselves with others. Let’s not try to be like anyone else but Christ. Focus on what you’re doing, put your best foot forward and endeavor to make God proud, not men. Colossians 3:23-24

What can we do as members of society? Start appreciating people for their efforts. Don’t put on your judgmental goggles to start comparing them with others. See that person as the individual they are and value what he/ she has to offer. Don’t be like ahhh he could sing but his sister does a better job. No no no no no! He can sing! That’s it!!! Leave it right there!!! Do not add another word!!!!

Let’s strive to be great!!!

We all can be great!!!

What’s the best? Ain’t nobody got time for that!! lol

Never Again!

There has been countless times in the past I ended up drifting away from God. Thinking, maybe I can get by just fine without Him. He’s taking too long to come through for me anyways… Waiting is not something I do very well. Like for real, it’s like I start to twitch when I have to wait. I really dislike waiting so I would try to conquer that by always managing my time well. I love to plan ahead, get things sorted, put things in place, just so I wouldn’t have to wait. I tried not to keep people waiting so they would always think when the situation is reversed, Karmel is always early so don’t let me keep her waiting, but it seldom worked.

When I’m hit with an uncontrollable situation where I have to wait, I’d start to have a panic attack. This is not how it was supposed to go, I planned everything step by step, or it needed to be completed by such and such time so that I can do this in order for me to get that.. *big sighs*. God I asked you to let this go accordingly. *bigger sigh*

In actuality I was trying to control my own life. I didn’t trust God even though I would say I do. I wanted God to do things my way. When he didn’t it would put distance between us. Why should I even pray when God doesn’t even listen? *eye rolling*

Most of my drifting has always been because I didn’t like to wait. Ok I’m done with God, I’m going to do this my way. And guess what happens… Yea you guessed it, I’d make things so much worse. If I had just waited in the first place, it wouldn’t have turned out like this. Taking things into my own hands was a way of telling God I can do a better job than He could.

As a teenager I asked God to teach me how to wait. How I wished I could take back that prayer. I never thought I’d still be getting lessons up until today.  I’d failed so many lessons and I wanted God to give me a free pass. Just put me to the other level forget about that prayer I made so long ago. But God is faithful to His promises.

No matter how much I try to stay on top of things, I still have to let go and trust God. I’m learning that now. Every time I take matters into my own hand it gets crazy. So as I journey with Christ I’m letting go, letting go of all my anxieties and worries, my dreams and aspirations. God really does know best. Looking back on my life I have so many ahhhhh moments. Oh God that’s why you allowed that to happen? WOW!!! Seeing the things God was trying to keep me from and understanding why he allowed certain to happen, that scripture comes to mind All things work together for good…

Never again!!! Will I try to take God out of the picture. Never again!!! Will I walk away from Him. Being far away from God is the last thing I want to do. Now that I know what being close to Him feels like. I never want to leave.

There’s a peace in my soul when I’m with Him!

Even in the storm He’s going to see me through!

The power of QT

Yesterday was an amazing day! Its one of my husband’s days off. I enjoy when he’s home. Lets stay home forever babe… We had a “little” outing to the zoo but it left such an indelible mark on my heart and my memory. There isn’t anything in particular I can pinpoint that I enjoyed the most it was just being there with Him, having fun, seeing him making crazy videos, the little conversations, oh and posing for pictures, it was pure bliss.

Well of course we annoyed each other for brief moments like when I wanted to go see for myself what’s at the end of the line and my husband just wanted me to take his word for it. Man just leave me alone na! Or when my husband was protecting me from being run over by human beings and he insisted on saying move to the right 500 times. Thanks my husband for looking out for me!!!

The train rides, stopping on the way to get ice cream, watching each other mess ourselves up (with ice cream that is), shivering under the cold Ac in the busses.  We laughed our heads of when we got home, well I did most of the laughing. But the point is don’t take the little things for granted. Honestly I feel like I love him a little bit more because of the quality time we spent with each other. As simple as it may sound I wouldn’t trade it for anything else in the world. Those are the moments that matter.

New to the married life, I’m realizing that it’s the little intentional, sweet efforts we make that will keep the fire burning (and yes I’ve heard the fire can go out and it dies most times too). We cannot expect the marriage to grow if we don’t take the weeds out, give it some sunlight, water and proper soil. Make intentional efforts to cause your relationship to flourish. For too long the world has been comparing their relationships to Christians saying “things like a good live home is better than a broken marriage, or Christian couples don’t give me hope when they look like they’re only together because they don’t want a divorce, they look like they’re just enduring each other “. Yes those things are actually being said about christian marriages. Believe it or not we are being watched by the world and our youths. Let’s remember our lights have to shine in our relationship too. So lets shine them lights, yeah?

Let’s remember our wedding vows and work towards making this “till death do us part” thing be the best thing ever!

May God bless Our Unions!!!

Cheers to the married peoples!!!

Marriage: Conflict and Conflict Resolution

My mom is so quiet, I always saw how peaceful she was. I hardly heard my mom raising her voice or getting into an argument, this was amazing to me. But me on the other hand… I wish to be like my mom. She’s one of my role models. When I’m upset I tend to want the whole world to be upset too. I remember when I was younger if I had an argument I always went for the hit below the waist / belt (whatever they say in boxing). I wanted to hit to damage. I endeavored to change but I realized that I still have some traits peeping up in my marriage.

Well my husband is the opposite of me where it comes to arguments. I want to yell and get upset and stay mad in my corner, glare, and don’t talk even when he tries to talk. Then when he doesn’t say anything I run away with the idea that he’s not bothered probably because he doesn’t care. Then I get upset all over again. While my husband readily forgives and is eager to move forward.

I’ve always heard people say don’t ever assume a man can read your mind because he just can’t. No matter how much you try to reason it out, it’s just not a part of his make-up. Now me on the other hand I can add two and two together and it gives me four every time. If he does this then it must be that or if he says that then he wants this. Simple as that but, noooo the man doesn’t  add patterns, or actions or nothing…. just kidding.

I remember one of the most common wedding advice we got was “you must learn to communicate, communication is key to making a marriage or any relationship work”. And it’s one of the best advice. A lot of our actions and words can be misread many times because as simple as it may be to you, our minds process things differently. This brings in to play our back ground, our exposure, our culture etc. All these things have to be taken into consideration when we’re dealing with another human being.

So the middle ground we came up with is to check in with  each other monthly or whenever necessary. To talk about things, things that we don’t like, things we wish to change, things we like and wish to remain the same. No hard feelings, we must say exactly how we feel. So that in the future we will know what we need to work on or continue doing.

Is it working ? Yes, but we have to make a conscious effort to remember the things that offend. Is it hard? Very, habits are hard to break especially when we think we’re grown. But its worth it!!!

We’ll be with each other for a lifetime so we have to do our best to make it happy and peaceful. So as much as it gives me satisfaction when I let him have it, I have to take a step back and reconsider how this will affect us ten years down the road. When we have children how will we teach our children respect when we don’t respect ourselves.

What we do now can have lasting positive or damaging effects on our marriage.

We’re going to nip it in the bud!!!

God Help us on our journey!!!

Life of a warrior

Stop sugar-coating christianity!!! Straight up, this journey is not an easy one, but is it worth it? Yes absolutely! Worth every sacrifice. We have to build soldiers that are battle ready. Like the 300 chosen soldiers in Gideon’s army who lapped the water like dogs. We have become too thin-skinned not able to withstand little offenses.

The Christian walk will be filled with constant sacrifices we have to make. Constant tough decisions to make. The bible says “ Because strait is the gate and narrow is the way which leads unto life, and few there be that find it”.Matt 7:14 The word “strait” means a situation specified by a degree of difficulty or trouble. This shows us we have to be prepared for the troubles to come. They shouldn’t come to us by surprise. We have to keep our minds ready AT ALL TIMES for battle. The enemy will fight as long as it takes to win our soul, that’s why we need to stay focussed.

No, all your dreams may not be accomplished especially if it doesn’t line up with God’s plan for you. There may be times when we will lose everything like Job, will we still stand firm in the faith or are we going to give up? We should be prepared to lose it all for the sake of Christ, be ready to say for it is the Lord that gives and the Lord that taketh away, Blessed be the name of the Lord, Job 1:21 .

We need to be more deliberate with our walk in Christ. Our children need to see consistency, self-control and dedication. We cannot show the world one thing then our lives are totally wrecked behind closed doors. If we say we trust God then that’s what we ought to demonstrate at all times. This world is not getting easier for  us much less our children to grow up in. Our desire should be to influence the next generation to be the best warriors for Christ , to raise up righteous seeds that will rise up and bear fruits throughout the world. Instead of training our children to put priority on the secular things lets train them to make decisions that would impact the kingdom of Christ for generations to come. We ought to change our mindset. We are not of this world and therefore we are not entitled to the things of this world.

So lets put on the armor of God and be battle ready at all times! Ephesians 6:11-18
